Students’ safety and security is of utmost concern to the University. Within the Notre Dame campus, Notre Dame Security Police (NDSP) provides 24/7 security coverage.
In the local community, the area surrounding the University falls under the jurisdiction of the South Bend Police Department , the Saint Joseph County Police Department , or the Mishawaka Police Department. Although the local South Bend and Mishawaka communities have much to offer students who live off-campus or spend time socializing off-campus, it is important for students to recognize that — as with any city — individuals need to be alert in their surroundings and use common sense. This section of the website outlines suggestions, tips, and resources offered by Crime Prevention officers from NDSP as well as from local police departments. If you have never lived on your own before, this may be the first you’ve heard of renter’s insurance. Here are some quick tips and considerations.
You’ve done it! You have officially moved off-campus. Now what? Well, before you starting pulling your hair out, just relax and take a breath. This is not dorm life, so there will be many more responsibilities—but many benefits as well.
Instead of dining hall food (lovely though it may be), you can concoct your own culinary masterpieces….have your room however you like it, and probably have much more space to live in than your old dorm room. But before you start enjoying the off-campus life TOO much, be aware of a couple of things:
Please remember you don't have to pay for utilities till you move in; however please take note that turning on utilities is not a quick setup. The utility companies will need a few days to have the electricity and gas turned on. This being said, please click HERE for local utility companies in the area, Cable TV and other services.
Also I strongly recommend that at the very least you have the electric setup to be turned on June 1st or 2nd, as you may want it on for when you move in and not after which may be the case if you wait. That way when you move in you will have electricity working. If you are not going to be moving in till sometime around August it is still recommended that you do it before had to have it scheduled for June 1st or 2nd. Bumbacahouses Is happy to introduce new additions to the housing options in the Notre Dame area. We are adding 1019 Talbot St., 1104 Bissell St. and 1319 South Bend Ave. all newly remodeled homes with a brand new look. Please take some time and contact Cosimo at 574.261.4965 to schedule an appointment. Houses are going fast so don’t wait till next year to make you move it may be to late. Thanks BH
It is getting closer to crunch time and if you are plaining on finding a house for off-campus living now is the time to start looking. With the high demand for off-campus housing and limited space on Notre Dame Campus it is harder for students and faculty to find a place that they can call home. Remember the sooner you start looking for a house the better you chances in getting a house of your choosing.
